Many people find that Gujarati text in Canva looks plain, boxy, or mismatched with the design they are making. Canva's built in library focuses mostly on English fonts, and the Gujarati options that appear are often basic. You can still use better Gujarati fonts in Canva. You just need to know the right steps.

Step 1

Check What Canva Already Has

Open the text tool, click the font dropdown, and type "Gujarati" in the search box. Canva will show fonts that support the script. You will usually see clean options such as Noto Sans Gujarati or similar system style fonts. These work well for body text but feel plain for poster headlines.

Step 2

Search Specific Font Names from Google Fonts

Canva includes many fonts from Google Fonts. These do not always appear under a simple "Gujarati" search. Type the exact names below in the Canva font search box:

Noto Sans Gujarati

Reliable and clean for body text and official flyers.

Hind Vadodara

Modern, humanist curves. Excellent for social media posts.

Mukta Vaani

Versatile multi weight family for headlines and body text.

Baloo Bhai 2

Rounded and friendly, suitable for informal and festive graphics.

Shrikhand

Bold and decorative calligraphy style for festival banners.

Mogra

Lively and expressive hand lettering for casual designs.

Rasa

Elegant serif option for formal invitations and certificates.

These fonts are often already available inside Canva. Searching for the exact name is much more effective than simply browsing categories.

Step 3

Upload a Custom Font (Canva Pro)

If you have a specific decorative Gujarati font as a downloaded .ttf or .otf file, Canva Pro lets you upload it directly:

  1. Click Brand Kit in the left sidebar of your Canva dashboard.
  2. Go to Brand Fonts and click Upload a font.
  3. Select your downloaded .ttf or .otf font file from your computer.
  4. Once uploaded, the font appears under Brand Kit fonts in the font dropdown of any design.

This is the main way to bring more stylised or calligraphy style Gujarati fonts into Canva.

Important: Only Upload Unicode Font Files Do not upload older non Unicode legacy fonts such as Gopika, Krishna, Saumil, or Avantika. Canva expects standard Unicode text. Old encoding fonts will turn your design into broken Latin or English letters when opened on mobile devices.

Why Your Gujarati Text Sometimes Looks Broken

This is a very common problem. Someone copies Gujarati text from an old Word document or WhatsApp message, pastes it into Canva, and it appears as random English gibberish.

This is not a Canva bug. It means the original text was typed in an older legacy non Unicode font.

The fix is simple: convert the text to proper Unicode using our online Gujarati Unicode Converter first, then paste the converted output into Canva. Once it is real Unicode, it will display correctly with any Unicode Gujarati font you apply.

Getting a Stylised Look Without Uploading Fonts

If you do not have Canva Pro, or you want a decorative headline without dealing with font files, an online Gujarati font generator can help for short text such as titles and names.

Type your text into our live Font Generator, choose a style, copy it, and paste it into a Canva text box. Or export a transparent PNG image and drag it straight into Canva. No font upload is needed.

This works well for headlines. For full paragraphs of body text, an actual uploaded font or one of the Google Fonts options listed earlier will look cleaner and more readable.
